BIO:
Jay is an experienced commercial and maritime lawyer who joined the firm in 2016. His practice includes business and financial services law, real estate, admiralty and maritime law, and commercial and personal injury litigation.


Jay was born in Switzerland but has lived in New England for most of his life. He grew up in Connecticut, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. After Dartmouth he worked as a paralegal for a large firm in Vermont, then earned his law degree from New York University School of Law where he was a member of the distinguished Order of the Coif, received the American Jurisprudence Award in Contracts and served as a Staff Editor for the New York University Law Review. Jay started his law practice at another Portland firm, where he specialized in maritime law and commercial, personal injury and appellate litigation. In 2001 he moved to Banknorth Group, a growing financial holding company later acquired by TD Bank. As a Vice President and Senior Counsel at TD Bank, he was responsible for areas including wealth management, insurance, privacy and eCommerce.


Jay is admitted to practice in the state and U.S. District Courts of Maine and Vermont, the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court. He is a certified FINRA arbitrator, a member and former Chair of the Falmouth (Maine) Board of Zoning Appeals, and a Proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. Martindale-Hubbell has awarded him a Distinguished rating (4.5 stars) for high professional achievement.


In addition to his professional skills, Jay is an accomplished high altitude mountaineer with summits including Denali (20,310’/6,190 m.) and numerous other high peaks in North and South America and Europe. He is also an experienced boater, and has cruised the entire coast of Maine and throughout the Caribbean on sailing and power vessels. Jay and his wife Allison live in Falmouth, and enjoy relaxing at a tiny cabin that Jay built in Plainfield, Vermont.
